The LaGrange Police Department’s Canine Unit is comprised of four
highly trained canine teams. One team consists of a handler and the canine.
One team is assigned to each of the four patrol shifts to provide 24 hour
canine coverage. Canine teams are trained in narcotics detection and patrol
activities, therefore canine teams typically respond to burglaries or
alarms to search the building for possible or known suspects, or assist
LaGrange Police officers or other agencies in apprehending fleeing or
hiding suspects. Canine teams are frequently called upon to search residences
or vehicles for illegal drugs. In addition, canine teams participate in
public safety presentations to help educate the public regarding the canine
capabilities and to deter illegal activity.
