The defensive driving training course will consist of a 4 hour
class room portion and a 1 hour (per student) hands on driving portion
conducted the following day by trained law enforcement officers.
One parent will he required to attend the entire course with their
child. The first two hours of the classroom portion is Parents reducing
driver error cunicu1um from the Governors Office of Highway Safety
and is free. The second 2 hour portion of the classroom phase is
on the skid car and driving techniques, both classes will be held
at Lagrange High School. There will be a $60 fee for the second
classroom portion which will include the driving portion on the
second day. A secondary classroom location will be located at the
Parks and Recreation facility on Lafayette Parkway. The driving
portion will be held at the transportation center off Davis Road.
The participants will utilize their own vehicles for the braking
section of the driving portion and the Lagrange Police Department
Skid Car will be used for the skid avoidance portion. A release
of liability will be included in the application form stating that
the vehicle owners car insurance will cover any damages occurred
if an accident occurs during the training. A maximum of 15 students
per class will participate along with one parent. LaGrange High
School wilt provide handheld radios to be used during the hands
on driving course.
After attending the Georgia Traffic Injury Prevention Institute
(GTIPI) training course. Student will be allowed to apply through
the GTIPI and receive a certificate to send to their insurance companies
for a possible reduced rate. They will also receive a certificate
from the LaGrange Police Department for the Skid Car training.
