ELECTRIC SERVICES
The City of LaGrange, through its membership in MEAG Power, supplies electricity to industrial, commercial and residential users. As a result of strategic long range planning by MEAG, large quantities of electricity are consistently available at a low cost. Reliability is high. LaGrange users never experience brownouts due to power interruptions and with its strong transmission system, power interruptions are extremely rare. The City of LaGrange provides highly competitive electric rate service to its customers and is positioned to deliver this same reliable and cost-competitive in an ever-changing market.
NATURAL GAS SERVICES
Purchased from various producers and marketers, transported by El Paso Energy and distributed by the City of LaGrange, the price of natural gas here is very cost competitive. Firm gas volumes are purchased under corporate warranted contracts that assure constant supply. Customers that choose to purchase interruptible gas volumes are only curtailed during extremely cold periods. Flexible pricing arrangements using gas futures and options are available for customers wishing to "hedge" their gas supply needs.
WATER & SANITATION FACILITIES
Water is supplied by the City of LaGrange through the unlimited raw water resources of the Chattahoochee River and West Point Lake Reservoir. Permitted operating capacity is 16,000,000 gallons per day with a current daily average water plant capacity of 9,000,000 gallons. This results in an excess water plant capacity of 7,000,000 gallons per day. The City of LaGrange water system has a finished water storage capacity of 6,600,000 gallons and an elevated storage capacity of 5,000,000 gallons.
WASTEWATER & SEWAGE FACILITIES
Wastewater treatment is also provided by the city, which has an excess wastewater and sewerage capacity of 4,000,000 gallons.
COMMERCIAL SANITATION SERVICES
Sanitation services are provided by the City of LaGrange, which manages solid waste handling for residents. The city's state-licensed landfill ensures a capacity sufficient for many years to come. In addition, LaGrange operates a recycling center, which serves commercial, industrial and residential sectors. The city also provides assistance with marketing recyclable materials on site. Industrial garbage/trash pickup is performed by individual contractors including the City of LaGrange Commercial Sanitation Services.
FIRE & POLICE PROTECTION SERVICES
Governed by a mayor, city council and city manager, LaGrange is dedicated to providing resources that both protect and serve its corporate and private citizens. Among these are telecommunications, electricity, water, sanitation and sewage, natural gas, and fire and police protection.
Fire protection is provided by 60 full-time personnel and by another 100-plus part-time/volunteer personnel in both the City of LaGrange and Troup County. The city's Fire Department has earned a Class 3 rating.
Police protection is provided by total city and county full-time forces numbering 130-plus. Both city and county operate 24-hour patrol and dispatch services through enhanced 911.
