Smell gas?

We add a distinctive odor to natural gas so that you can detect even the smallest amount which might escape from gas piping. It smells bad, but that's good because natural gas has no odor of its own. Everyone should be able to recognize our built in safety signal.

If you ever detect faint whiffs of this odor, investigate by "following your nose" to the source. It may be only a pilot light that's out or a burner valve partially turned on...things that are easily corrected.

If you cannot identify the source or the odor becomes intense, do the following:

  • Outdoors: call us immediately at +706 883 2130.
  • Indoors: leave the building immediately...don't smoke or operate any switches...go to a neighbors house and call us at +706 883 2130.

Natural gas is not poisonous. The cause of so-called "gas poisoning" is carbon monoxide generated by improperly working appliances or poorly installed vent pipes. As a basic precaution, be sure that all flue connections and venting are unobstructed and properly fitted. Gas is a dependable and efficient product with an excellent safety record. We will work constantly to keep it that way!
