Hours: 7am-3:30pm



JOB DESCRIPTION

An employee in this position is responsible for trimming and/or removing trees and other vegetation in the vicinity of electric power lines. Duties include ensuring that employees on the tree trimming crew follow all safety rules, assisting with day-to-day problem solving, and discussing trimming requirements with property owners. Employee reports to the Right of Way Foreperson.

Examples of Work:

  • Trims trees and vegetation in and around energized power lines
  • Removes dangerous trees on public rights-of-way
  • Chips and removes wood debris
  • Provides feedback to the Right of Way Foreperson
  • Maintains equipment in proper working condition
  • Assists with tree and debris removal following major storms
  • Performs other related duties as required

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Obtain a valid class B CDL
  • Certified in First Aid and CPR
  • Five years’ experience as a power line right-of-way trimmer

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of proper tree trimming techniques including ANSI A300
  • Ability to operate required equipment including bucket truck, saw and chipper
  • Ability to make quick, sound and safe decisions
  • Ability to respond to emergencies after hours
  • Effective communication skills

Work Environment:

Work is usually performed in an outdoor field environment. This results in exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, hazardous traffic and all types of weather/temperature conditions. Work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery and uneven surfaces, as well as, rough terrain is common.
